Feb 2025 update — where are we up to?

Background

While the emerging lived experience workforce and peer-led services are an important part of the suicide prevention system, more support is needed to grow, develop and support this workforce at a regional level.

Through funding support provided by Central and Eastern Sydney PHN, we are planning and delivering a range of practical workforce development activities as part of a regionally coordinated and connected approach — which we call SPLEWDI [Suicide Prevention Lived Experience Workforce Development Initiative].

Where are we up to?

SPLEWDI commenced in mid-2024 and is being delivered until June 2025.

The diagram above shows some of the key activiites that we’re delivering as part of SPLEWDI. Many of these activities have already been completed, including:

  • Coalition established — we first assembled a group of eight representatives from the suicide prevention Lived Experience workforce in Central and Eastern Sydney in August 2024

  • Background briefing with national/state policy context and summary of local workforce needs completed in September 2024 — read more

  • Regional forum held in October 2024 — read more

  • SPLEWDI Action plan endorsed in November 2024 — read more

  • Learning and Development guide developed in January 2025 — read more

  • Peer supervision background paper developed in January 2025 — read more

  • this online hub with resources, learning activities and other opportunities launched in January 2025

What’s still to come?

  • Learning activities — we’ll be hosting a number of in-person and virtual sessions to connect, share and learn with others on key topics of interest — see what’s coming here

  • Funded peer supervision — EOIs for supervisors currently being evaluated, with EOIs for participants to be released in March 2025

  • Funded training — currently exploring potential providers, with EOIs for participants to be released in March 2025

  • A regional event to happen in June 2025 — initial scoping and planning to start soon, so stay tuned for more detail.
